NEW I-9 FORMS RELEASED

On July 31st, the Federal Government released new I-9 forms. We've broken it down for you here!

FEDS PUBLISH NEW FORM I-9

"News of the impending updated form proved timely, appearing less than two weeks before the end of USCIS’ temporary flexibility that allowed employers to conduct remote document verification. Moreover, the continued availability of remote verification for certain E-Verify users “is probably the biggest thing to happen in immigration compliance in many, many years,” Avram Morell, partner at Pryor Cashman, said in an email to HR Dive. “Human resources operations folks have been struggling for years to bring the entire onboarding process on-line, and the I-9 has always been an obstacle.”

The alternative verification process could help employers save on costs such as staffing individual worksites with employees who are familiar with the I-9 process or using vendors to complete physical document examination, Morell said." Learn more

NEW REMOTE REVIEW FEATURE

"The U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Citizenship and Immigration Services announced Friday the forthcoming publication of an updated Form I-9, used by employers to verify the identity and employment authorization of employees. The new form will become available Aug. 1.

Additionally, the agency published a final rule — effective the same day as the new form’s release — amending its regulations to permit the secretary of homeland security to authorize “alternative document examination procedures” as an alternative to in-person, physical review by employers."
